WATERBEDS
Waterbeds are mattresses filled with water. Throughout the 19th century they were used for medical therapies; however the modern version, invented in San Francisco and patented in 1971, became a very popular consumer item in the United States throughout the 1970s. There are two different types of waterbeds. On the one hand, we can find the hard-sided ones, that is, a waterbed filled with water inside a rectangular wooden frame that rests on a plywood board that sits on the support platform. On the other hand we find the soft-sided waterbeds. They consist of an interior that contains the water mattress with a robust rectangular foam frame with a lock on the inside of a fabric shell, which sits on the base platform.
